Science Slam For Students and young reserchers

Are you ready to step out of the lab and try something different? We are excited to invite students and young researchers to Science Slam competition!

What is a Science Slam?

Science Slam is a competition between young scientists that present their research in a short, engaging and easy-to-understand way. It is NOT a traditional presentation. Participants compete for cash prices in value of 1 000 euros!

The Rules:

Forget traditional presentations and try to be original
Creativity first – use props, demonstrations, acting and more
The winners are decided by the audience

To ensure the best possible experience for both the performers and the audience, we have established a few guidelines for the stage. Here is everything you need to know about the format, timing, and technical setup for your Science Slam.

Performance & Format

Presentation Length: The maximum duration is 5 minutes (plus a very brief time for setup/removal of props). Every second counts!
Live vs. Video: We strictly require live, on-stage performances. The Science Slam is all about the energy and interaction with the audience.
Visual Aids: Presentations are more than welcome, but they must be the polar opposite of a standard academic lecture. The golden rule: no graphs, no data tables, and no raw results. Use your slides to visually amplify your performance—think striking imagery, clever metaphors, or minimalist animations. The screen should be a dynamic partner to your storytelling, not a source of "death by PowerPoint."
Props & Demos: Physical props are highly encouraged! As long as they are safe and can be brought on and off stage quickly.

Technical & Audience

Technical Support: We provide all what is needed. A technical rehearsal slot will be scheduled before the event.
Language: The presentation must be in English.
Audience: A vibrant mix of fellow researchers, students, and industry professionals. Your task is to make your topic accessible to all of them.

Registration

Fees: To perform at the Science Slam, you must be a registered participant of the main CHISA 2026 congress. There is no additional fee for the Slam itself.
Team Size: Individual performances.
Support & Coaching

Coaching: Yes, we offer online briefing sessions and individual coaching to help you fine-tune your "storyline" and stage presence. You can request this once your abstract is pre-selected.

If you are interested, send us an email application to scienceslam@chisa.cz by midnight of 30 July 2026. Please, include the following information in the application:

Your Name: Let us know who you are.
Presentation Title: Give us the name of your presentation.
Fun Fact About You: Something interesting or quirky for your introduction.
List of Requisites: All materials or props you will need for your presentation.
Brief introduction: 2 – 5 minute "teaser" video (can be recorded on a phone)
